blah blah blah… dnsbl.njabl.org see open proxy — 1111915532
I have been using my Mac for weeks without problems when suddenly my Mail program couldn’t send out any emails.
Every time it tries to, it says “blah blah blah no response blah blah blah at dnsbl.njabl.org see open proxy — 1111915532″.
Cryptic eh? I contacted my webhosting company. They asked me to try using my ISP server. Same problem. Hmm… so it’s just me?
Well, thank God for Google! Apparently, this is what dnsbl.njabl.org does.
“NJABL.ORG is Not Just Another Bogus List. This effort began out of frustration with the amount of spam coming into our networks and with the lack of options for an existing dnsbl with policies and stability we could live with. NJABL.ORG maintains a list of known and potential spam sources (open relays, open proxies, open form to mail HTTP gateways, dynamic IP pools, and direct spammers) for the purpose of being able to tag or refuse email and prevent at least some spam. We do not block email. We just provide a tool for network/system/mail administrators to use to protect their mail servers from email abuse. Our goal is to provide a stable and effective dnsbl with clearly stated and strictly adhered to criteria for listing.”
But me? Spam? Definitely not me!
Then I realized something. My mac is On all the time. My router is On all the time. My ADSL modem is On all the time. Could this be the work of some sinister hack utilizing my computing equipment?
Anyway, the solution for me is pretty easy. All I had to do was power off the ADSL modem, then power it back up. I get a new IP address this way and I’m fine again. For now.
Well, if this ever happens to you, you know what to do!
