Easing of Block on Wikipedia in China
During my business trip to China early last year, I was suprised to find that I had problems accessing Wikipedia. I asked around and was told that this is the work of the Chinese government, preventing full access to online information, particularly those which paints the current government in a bad light.
Well, that was then. So I was pleasantly suprised to read this today.
Blocking of Wikipedia in Mainland China
Apparently there are signs of easing on the ban, albeit just the English version.
Reporters without Borders just reported this as well.
Wikipedia, if you are still new to it, is an online encyclopedia where just about anyone could contribute to it. This way if you have more info about a certain subject than shown on the site, you could definitely add to the collective info there.
I have used it fairly often when researching for info and I’ll say it’s an excellent online source of info.
By the way, “wiki” refers to the software whereby anyone could edit it. “pedia” of course comes from encyclopedia.
