2 Album Recommendations

When Diyer Leonard came to my place recently, he brought a gift too.

Gently Weeps by Jake Shimabukuro.

Nope, never heard of this guy before but when he played the title track, While my Guitar Gently Weeps, you know why this CD is highly recommended! I’m sure George Harrison would have been proud by his playing! Lightning fast and emotive as well, all it takes is one listen and you’ll instantly be a fan!

The other CD, when it was first released 16 years ago, I didn’t buy it. Back then, I didn’t even own a single CD, what more a stereo set. Yeah, I was the “impoverished” kid back then. Ha ha! 🙂

After listening to the CD, it was difficult to search for it! It is a rare (very rare) Malaysian CD with fantastic recording and mastering. The production team’s decision to remaster this album in Japan has definitely made many audiophiles happy!

And I’m pleased to say that it’s even better today! Yes, they have digitally remastered this album and word has it that this version is even better than the first. Since I don’t have the first to compare, I wouldn’t bother then.

This is none other than Sheila Majid’s Lagenda XVXX.

Maggie with multiple inputs

At time of writing, the Internet connection is sooooooo slow. The recent earthquake in Taiwan took out some undersea communication cables, so all routing that goes through these cables are severely affected. My site included. 🙁

(And usually at times like these, we have a lot to blog!)

Anyway, pleased to announce that Audiohobbyist is now more than happy to offer you Maggie with multiple inputs.

For those of you who have been eagerly waiting for this version, your prayers are now answered!

Place your order from the e-Store.

By the way, The Star has just did a review of our lovely Maggie.

A Winding Road to Paradise

End of the Year Blues

Boy! It’s the end of the year now and I thought I could relax but unfortunately, things aren’t as planned…

Been on the road for 5 straight weeks now, thanks to my sooooo “interesting” day job. So it has been tough fulfiling orders in spite of all this.

That said, this has been the best year for diyparadise! Our sales have been hitting new records year by year. On top of that, with the welcomed addition of Audiohobbyist’s Maggie – the autoformer volume control, we are
slowly completing the lineup of diyparadise products. Hooray!

2006 sees more startup companies offering their own diy audio offerings as well. Some are really interesting, while some cut no new ground offering “cloned” products. All in, it shows the diy audio community is getting stronger by the year, while the mainstream hifi market isn’t doing that great. Perhaps customers are getting tired of all that hype and bull. 😀

Anyway, the new year should be more interesting as we’ll have more products coming soon! But as again, I’m ahead of myself. 🙂

I better not promise too much lest I fall flat on my face.

Will stop here. Cheers to 2006 and bring on 2007!

(First I need to get out of this dingy hotel room…)

Monica DAC Kit

Ok, I give up.

There have been so many mails asking for this kit that I just have to do this, before I lose my sanity replying so many such emails.

The thing is, I used to sell “my baby” as a kit but I wasn’t prepared for the technical support needed. It is assumed when you buy such a kit, you have some basic electronic knowledge. You could read/measure a resistor, identify which is a capacitor, you could solder, you know which wires go where…

Unfortunately, the reason for buying a kit sometimes is purely absurd like “I want to save a few bucks”. Well mister, when you screw her up, you lose A LOT.

I have seen some Monicas so badly built, it will be a miracle if she sings!

Please do not treat this as a soldering exercise.
Please do not buy this just to “save a few bucks”.
Please do not even bother to attempt it if you don’t own a multimeter and/or can’t read resistor codes.
Please do not even bother if you can’t tell red wire is meant to go to +12VDC and black wire goes to GND.
Please, if you screw up wiring the power supply and permanently damage Monica, don’t blame me!
Please do not even read further if you feel that I’m being mean!

There, ah… Had to let that out. Feel better now. 🙂

The point is, if you purchase the kit, it is assumed you could complete it. If you get stuck, I’ll help you but do realize that I may not reply you instantly so it’s best that you post on the forum.

Posting on forum has another benefit. Other folks can just read/search for the answer to their queries if it has been asked before.

Okay, after reading all this, if you still dare to tread these choppy waters, go ahead!

You may want to read this page too, Cloning Monica. This explains the component choices. Note that I solder every Monica on the ESD sheet. You better do so to avoid ESD damage!

Year End Sale!

I don’t often do sales as my margins are pretty low. Having a low cost operation means, indirectly, lower selling prices too. However, here’s a sweet offer for you. 🙂

Year End Sale! Go to the e-store at!

Discounts of 10% is applied to various items. Music CDs, Mundorf capacitors, Clearance items etc. Go check it out!

So if you love the sonics of Mundorfs but still find them a tad rich for your wallet, this is the time to strike!

Sale ends on 26th December though. (So much for year end…) But if response is good, I might extend it. Cheerios!

New Products coming up…

Man! I’m so busy these days. Been travelling a lot. Day job is killng me! Monica and USB Convertors are now out of stock but with me constantly on the road, it has been tough. Real tough…

Don’t worry though, not going to neglect you at all!

December will be a month with a few new products. Actually, it depends on my schedule but I’m so excited I need to get this out of my system first. 🙂

Due to popular request, here are 2 REAL EASY power supply units for you to get off the ground right away. They take in 100-240VAC and outputs a few voltages. There are 2 models, the 1A version meant for Monica and the 2.5A version which can be used for either Monica or Charlize or both together. Set to 12 or 13VDC and baby, you can light my fire! The input plug is UK type though so you may need an adaptor.

Calv Acoustic Labs has finally done up a proper CDM12 Controller Kit. The previous one, he called it a “soft launch” but there’s no such thing as a soft launch man! Once word gets out, the buzz grows uncontrollably and words spread out faster than I could type this line. So in essence, we were actually unable to cope with the demand. Well, that was THEN. 🙂

Go ahead, visit the CDM12 Controller page. All the stuffs could be ordered from the store.

Actually I should stop here, but I can’t help it. I just have to give you a sneak peek at a new product that was planned for Christmas but then the whole schedule got screwed up. Okay, I won’t say more now. The pics should say a lot. More details will follow… Please don’t send me any mails enquiring about this item though. *Remember, it’s just a preview.*
