When I first joined the workforce years ago, I realized I was just another faceless statistic, struggling with a boring day job, barely adequate pay, incremental pay rise (that’s why it’s called increment!) and of course, horrible inflation. Yes, I was part of the rat race.

Fortunately for me, my outlet back then was listening to music (still is today, but have less time) and building my own hifi gear. I realized back then that buying quality audiophile approved parts was difficult and expensive. Almost all the time, we have to import from overseas. There is such a specialty store in Malaysia but they are 300 miles away.

So I thought, why not I start an online business in this niche? Start up cost is low and I could do it part time. Low risk and if successful, high returns! And thus, diyparadise was born.

5+ years later, we are still here and have expanded to 3 business partners and yours truly.

However, if you have been following diyparadise all this while, you’ll realize our growth only really took off about 2 years after I started off. You see, back then I had no business mentor, no marketing ideas, what more business acumen… So I was struggling. Experimenting with few ideas here and there…

Today, I’m still in the rat race, still have a boring day job, but I hang around only to pay the bills. (Besides, I love the idea of someone paying me when I’m sick!) The REAL money is from my online business, one which I could do in my spare time.

Just one or two hours a day (easily manageable if you switch off the idiot box) and the income already EXCEEDS my 44-hours a week treadmill.

So what happened? What’s the secret behind this growth?
