Hello guys, Sorry for the late reply but I have been driving 1450 km to collect my new (second hand) amplifier I'm sure Charlize is a good amplifier but I really wanted to have a Symphonic Line RG9 MK4 Thank you for the update about all the updates Paul, nice work! I'll jump into the world of NOS DAC's again soon Yeo (first need to sell my old amplifier so I can buy some food again ). Ronald.

Hi Yeo and Paul I sold my monica dac a few years ago cause I thought other (commercial) dacs were sounding better. I've been changing a lot in my stereo setup since then and also learned a lot about what I am looking for in the reproduction of music. I am now at the point that I care a lot less about all the technical aspects of how music reproduction sounds and care a lot more about how musical it sounds. To make a long story short, I am about to rediscover the world of NOS dacs and that of course brought me back to diyparadise. I am pleased to see that the Rudolf Broertjes common base I/V converter has been evoluated into the nice Mojo product At this moment I am in the process of bying a new (more musical) amplifier but when this is done I'll start thinking about trying monica 3 with mojo About the waveforms, I am not an expert on the sampling theorem but I could imagine that when you would break down a music signal into the sum of (a lot of) sinuses that the theorem might actually be correct Ronald.

yes, this is why the initial usage of nyquist theorem of using 44.1khz as a sampling frequency is all wrong. at 20khz, can get only 2 points!
I don't think its wrong. 2 points will give you a square wave which will become a sine wave again after low pass filtering (which is also part of the theorem!). Ronald.

Hi Yeo,
Not sure if it was your fault or mine, but thats not important at all :P
Last week I took a decision and choose another route to audio hapiness. I Bought an Apogee DAC that rejects jitter very well and decided to leave the SB3 alone from now on. Sold my cd transport, and using the sb3 now as my main music source. Between SB3 and DAC is a Behringer upsampler that upsamples to 24/96.
Very happy with the results :-)
Now having great fun with room correction (on the SB3).
Anyway my point is I probably will leave my SB3 as it is now (modified it back to original state but still using pulse trans) and I am sorry that my initial idea of slaving its clock to the Monica dac never came true :-[
Because of this change in my stereo set I won't be on this forum much anymore (using another DAC now..) but I want to thank you for all your work and support on this fine forum.
Cheers.
Ronald

Unfortunatly my pulse trans did not survive trip (wires broken of), or maybe I did this myself while pulling it from the plastic :'(
Sorry to have to tell you this Yeo, I really appriciate the fact that you send this to me.
Well don't worry I will order one myself now that I know what to look for.
Ronald.

Yeo, I was thinking.. You do not use a voltage divider, thus there is 3,3V spdif signal at the transformer, which means 1,65V at the seconday side that goes to the dac. No problem for Monica (input receiver van handle 12V :D ), but its not according spdif standards (max 1V)
What is your opinion about this?
Ronald.

hi ronald
send me a personal email with your address.
i bought a couple previously and could send one to you.
registered mail ok?
Hi Yeo, That would be very nice, thank you :) i won't say your experiments didn't work. perhaps the noise is masking whatever you have done. thus you can't hear any improvement.
I agree. perhaps it's as good idea to step back, implement the trans first, then slowly try out this clock mod again.
Well, actually the reclocker in the XO3 module has a puse transformer as well so I don't think this would make any difference.. Regards, Ronald
