    hi all
eliot and i have modeled the enclosure for his merrill dca4's and images are included.  the model was built in sketchup and we can send the sketchup file to those who might want it.  also, from that, we have generated the piece cuts.  i can export to scale and send if anyone wants them.
    happy building
    k & eliot

    hi all,
we are auditioning eliot's new dca 4's in the t line cabs.  plenty of bass!!! need some break in time.  the speakers right now are probably better for nearfield that room listening.  but very fun and very nice sound so far.
    thanks
    k

    hi all,

i have run these most of the weekend on my old ss amplifier.  they are smoothing out quite nicely.  so far, it's pretty amazing that they have such good bass, and they do well filling the room.  the tone is good, however, with less body than the big speakers you see behind them in the photo.  they have limits in volume, but nothing that i would think should be any real disadvantage.  they sound very good at the listening levels i am comfortble with.  eliot is very happy with them, and they also have a very high waf(wife accetance factor).  in fact, rebecca was astounded when she heard them this afternoon!  piano and voices are very natural.

    hi kevin

    wow! glad to hear this!

not many has tried this but i figure a line array of dca4 (or dca5.5) would be awesome!

thanks for the update and for sharing the design here.

the t line would make a very simple flat pack that could be  cnc milled out of either solid hardwood or birch ply. cnc would be able to create route rabbets for a very tight build.  we built eliots out of birch ply for all parts except for the front baffles which are 3/4" laminated aspen (which is locally available at the hardware store) and we made them with a jigsaw and no rabbets.  they aren't very pretty, but they do enough to make the point that the dca 4's make an astounding speaker for the price.

    hi all,
these speakers i suppose are fully wworn in at this point. i have a few more listening imprssions to share.  last night i was listneing  to bluegrass, and i was amazed by the prexence and immediacey of the dca4's.  they do strings, piano and voices really well.  the immediacy of the plucked string is very strong.

Great design for the DCA4.  I have a pair of original DCA5.5 drivers in 8"W x 18"H x 11.5"D bass reflex cabinets with a 2" rear port and they sound pretty amazing with plenty of bass (people think I have a subwoofer).  I recently purchased the new DCA5.5's and I want to build a TL cabinet for them.  Have you drawn up a DCA5.5 version of your TL design?  Also, I don't see the XMAX rating on the DCA5.5 data sheet on diyparadise; does anyone know what the XMAX is for this driver?  I need XMAX to run calculations for cabinet design possibilities.

Here is a demo of the original DCA5.5's in bass reflex cabinets:

Oops....found the TL box for DCA5.5 on the diyparadise downloads page.  Has anyone built and tested this enclosure with the DCA5.5?

Also, I'm still looking for Xmax data on the new DCA5.5

    Thanks

    hi mrktrout

i'm sorry i don't have the xmax spec either.

i wonder if anyone measured the old dca5? it's the same driver except for a much stiffer alloy frame now.
