Hi, I m a newbie here. I have a pair of TL speaker and was looking for a good sounding amp to drive them. I love the tube sound but not enough of juice to drive them properly. So turning to SS amp. that have all the goodies, after reading so much about Charlie & C2, may I know whether Charlie 2 have enough juice to drive a pair of 89db speakers?  Undecided

    hi kilohz
i am running merrill dca4 drivers  (87db) with charlize.  i am using a 50k stepped attenuator that i had on hand but i don't think is the proper impedance.  the merrills play very well, but not particularly loud.  for me the loud is not particularly important.  i expect with the correct volume control, you would be very satisfied with charlize

    thanks

Thank Q K, for your reply. Looks like everyone in this forum uses hi sensitivity speakers.  Roll Eyes
Loudness is not what I am after. To drive these 89db speakers needs abit of power and still looking for the right match. What would be the recommended preamp to go with C2?

hmm... any preamp can be used. since every preamp has some colouration or "its own voice", you get to pick your poison.

charlize is pretty transparent so whichever preamp you use, you'll hear its character.

ps: if the crossover network isn't too complicated, 89db isn't a problem. notice kevin uses 87db speakers...

    Thats some assurance..TQ Yeo. Grin
So C2 can drive my TL spks, next comes the preamp. Since tube sound warmer, tube pre amp would be the ideal combo. Simple 5687 preamp looks simple enough and so is the other one in diyparadise. Have to do some homework searching the old treads.............
    TQ....... Smiley
