if the speakers are very old, i would worry whether the connecting wires, binding posts etc are still in good condition to conduct current or it’s badly oxidized. i mean the internal wires inside the speaker. you would need to open it up and take a look.

i would check this first.

thx!

I picked up a pair of Coral BX-601 at an auction only to find that both speakers only produces a VERY VERY thin sound that can only be barely heard at hight volume.

Does something seem like a likely culprit for this? I tested on two receivers with two different sets of speaker wire. Both produced the same results.

I like the speakers. I’d love to repair or even use the boxes to build up an updated set. However, I’d be happiest having them work as original as possible.

Regards,

N

i would guess 12L-60 is quite close in specs to your driver.

I suppose these are woofers. Does anyone know how where to get technical details such as the Thiele-Small parameters of these drivers?

I am a music lover (cannot live without it) and I have built my own DIY Open Baffle speakers… my wife and I love our OB’s (Deborah loves music at least as much as I do and she really loves our OB’s played by a re-vamped EL-84 Heathkit 151A from the 1950’s). We are currently using a Visaton B200, 8″ wide-range driver that is not able to deliver the expressiveness and the nuances of the musical instrumental and voice sound-space the way I am certain the exquisitely designed Corals can.

If you have a pair for sale I would be deeply grateful if I could purchase them from you… if not, perhaps you could direct me to a source for them.

I love your website which is extremely informative and helpful in getting a sense of the genius that went into the design of the coral speakers. I deeply appreciate your kind attention.
With Warmest Friendship and Regards ~ Richard Waxberg / 805.640.0532
